With the help of donors and partners, parents can create real relationships in the womb, invite loved ones to also bond with a beloved baby, and make preparations with comfort and dignity. Your support reduces isolation, provides practical help, brings comfort, and gives families time together when it matters most.

We were given three precious days with our daughter, Millie, three more than we expected. Early in our pregnancy we learned she had a life-limiting genetic condition and would most likely not survive to birth. In that uncertainty we chose weekly Bonding Ultrasounds. Seeing her face, hearing her heartbeat, and inviting family to meet her became our way to bond with her before she was born and our most treasured memories after.

Who is eligible to receive Millie's Gift?
We support families that have received a life-limiting prenatal diagnosis or when a clinician believes their baby has a life-limiting condition that is likely to result in death in utero, at birth, or in early infancy regardless of medical intervention.
How is eligibility confirmed?
We are not a medical provider. Eligibility is based on confirmation from your clinician that the diagnosis is life-limiting. We partner with your team to support bonding ultrasounds and wraparound help.
What is a Life-Limiting Prenatal Condition?
Life-limiting prenatal conditions, also called grave to fatal conditions, vary greatly and are diagnosed by professional medical providers. Examples include, but are not limited to:

Chromosomal and genomic
- Trisomy 13 (Patau Syndrome)
- Trisomy 18 (Edwards Syndrome)
- Triploidy
- Trisomy 9 and other rare lethal aneuploidies
- Severe genetic syndromes with a known perinatal lethal course such as Meckel Gruber
Brain and central nervous system
- Anencephaly or acrania
- Alobar holoprosencephaly
- Hydranencephaly
- Iniencephaly
- Large encephaloceles with poor prognosis
Kidneys, amniotic fluid, and lungs
- Bilateral renal agenesis
- Severe autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease with anhydramnios
- Bilateral multicystic dysplastic kidneys that are nonfunctioning
- Severe lower urinary tract obstruction with prolonged oligohydramnios
- Resulting pulmonary hypoplasia from any of the above
Skeletal and neuromuscular
- Thanatophoric dysplasia
- Achondrogenesis types I and II
- Short rib polydactyly syndromes
- Osteogenesis imperfecta type II
- Hypophosphatasia perinatal lethal
- Campomelic dysplasia lethal form

Cardiac and thoraco abdominal
- Ectopia cordis or pentalogy of Cantrell
- Severe congenital diaphragmatic hernia with lethal pulmonary hypoplasia
- Complex congenital heart disease judged life limiting by the care team especially when combined with major anomalies
Body wall and other complex anomalies
- Limb body wall complex or body stalk anomaly
- Severe OEIS or cloacal exstrophy with life limiting prognosis
- Severe amniotic band sequence involving vital structures
Multisystem and other
- Non immune hydrops fetalis with poor or refractory prognosis
- Complications in multiples such as TRAP sequence with an acardiac twin
My baby’s diagnosis is not listed. Can we apply?
Yes. The diagnoses in the FAQ above are examples only. If your care team believes the condition is life-limiting, please apply. We review each case with compassion and will coordinate with your clinicians to confirm eligibility.
Can we apply before a confirmed genetic report?
Yes. If your clinicians suspect a life-limiting condition, you may apply while testing is in progress. We will confirm details with your team.
What is a Bonding Ultrasound?
A non-diagnostic session focused on connection and memory making with your baby during pregnancy.
How fast can support begin?
Once you apply we reply within two business days and begin coordinating with you and your providers.
Is Millie's Gift a medical provider?
No. We are a nonprofit that funds Bonding Ultrasounds and support. We do not provide medical advice.
Can I give in honor of a baby or family?
Yes. Select “In honor of” on the donation form and we can notify the honoree if you provide contact details.
How are funeral and memorial expenses covered?
Our principal service is providing access to Bonding Ultrasounds and to provide support throughout the pregnancy. As funding permits we consider on a case by case basis extending additional support to parents to help cover funeral and memorial expenses. This may include mortuary costs, cemetery costs, and headstone/memorial costs.
